A computer keyboard may not have all the characters you need for typing a document.

In many non-English languages that use the phonetic alphabet, characters are frequently denoted with accents and other marks that serve to identify them as separate or derived letters in the construction of a word. When typing a document, you may find it necessary to use one of these letters, such as an accented n. Fortunately, the Windows operating system has a built-in utility that allows you to copy such characters to your keyboard in order to paste them into your document.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the Start button in the lower-left corner of the screen. Select "Programs" followed by "Accessories," "System Tools," and "Character Map" from the menu.

    • 2

Locate the accented n symbol in the character map. In the default Arial font, it is in the 13th row down, and in the second or third position from the right, depending on whether you want an uppercase or lowercase letter.

    • 3

Double-click on the symbol and press the "Copy" button. Close the Character Map.

    • 4

Switch to the window in which you are typing your document and press CTRL+V to paste the accented n at the cursor's position.
