How to Edit Titles on Numbers for the iPad

Numbers for iPad lets you take your spreadsheets with you wherever you bring your iPad. The software offers easy access to templates and a variety of other features. However, the method for creating and editing titles for your Numbers documents is not readily apparent to new users because of the iPad's autosave method. On a computer, you title the file when you save it and you can edit the title from inside your folder view in Spotlight. With the iPad, you never have to save your work and the file storage all occurs within the Numbers app.

Instructions

    • 1

      Launch Numbers on your iPad.

    • 2

Tap the "My Spreadsheets" button in the upper-left corner if it launches with a document open. If it launches to your list of files, stay in that view.

    • 3

Swipe your finger left or right to drag the documents in one direction or another until the spreadsheet with the title you want to edit is centered and brighter than the other documents.

    • 4

Tap the title listed beneath the spreadsheet. This will launch the title editing bar whether the document currently has the default title or one you have given it.

    • 5

Press the gray and white "X" in the right end of the title bar to clear the existing title. Type a new title using your virtual or Bluetooth keyboard. If you want to edit the existing title without erasing it all, press and hold your finger on the area where you want the cursor to bring up the fine insertion view. Lift your finger when the cursor is where you want it and use your keyboard to edit the title from there.

    • 6

Tap anywhere outside the title editing bar to save your new title and close the editor.
