How to Draw Pokemon Blastoise

Squirtle evolves into Wartortle and then into Blastoise.

Blastoise, the ninth Pokemon in the Pokedex, is a classic Water-type monster that has been around since the first series of "Pokemon" games. This blue behemoth defeats its foes by throwing its hefty weight around and spraying them with the pair of pressurized water cannons protruding from its shell. Pokemon fans can draw and color a Blastoise by taking note of its simple shapes and blocky structure. Capturing this powerhouse on paper can be easier than defeating it in a Pokemon battle.

Instructions

1. Draw a large oval for the shell and body. A pair of smaller ovals and a single medium oval creates the basic shapes needed for its legs and head.

2. Redraw the outline of the creature's head to accommodate its large nose, skull bumps and upper lip. Bisect the head by drawing a line marking the lower jaw. A pair of triangles are used to make its eyes, and another pair are placed at the back of its head for short, cat-like ears. A simple "W" shape makes the nose and nostrils.

3. Sketch a trio of rounded triangle shapes at the base of the legs to fashion toe claws. A second oval shape is made halfway down the leg of the Blastoise to form its knees. Draw a simple short, thick triangular tail at the base of its shell.

4. Trace a set of three circles on the shoulders of the monster. These circles become the chunky arms of Blastoise. Drawing the circle closest to its body the largest and making each consecutive circle smaller shows that its hands are smaller than its upper arm muscle. Draw three large angular claws on each paw.

5. Illustrate the segments of the Blastoise shell by drawing horizontal lines across the belly portion. The back part of the shell has a large square opening with a conical water cannon pointing away from its head at a 45-degree angle. Keep plenty of negative space between shell sections to emphasize the size and girth of Blastoise. Outline the connecting space between the back and underside of its shell with chunky parallel lines.

6. Color in the natural hues of Blastoise with blue skin, a tan lower jaw and a dark brown outer shell. Its water cannons are a grayish silver color. The eyes, claws, toes and shell area between the top and bottom are pale white.
