Skype is a software program that allows users to make and receive voice calls over the Internet. Skype is available as a downloadable app for BlackBerry Curve models 8330, 8530 and 9330, but only on the Verizon Wireless network. Voice chat, which is similar to a phone call, and instant messaging can be used through Skype mobile for BlackBerry. Rather than use your cell phone minutes or text messages, you can use Skype to call other Skype users and instant message for free.

Instructions

      Go to the Skype mobile download website. You can get there by going to Skype.com, rolling the cursor over "Get Skype," then selecting "Skype mobile."

      Enter your BlackBerry Curve phone number into the blank field underneath "Get Skype mobile delivered via SMS," then click "Get Skype mobile." You will receive a text message from Skype with a link to download Skype for your BlackBerry.

      Open the text message from Skype and choose to download Skype. The program will take a few minutes to download.

      Launch Skype when it finishes downloading by clicking on the Skype icon on your home screen. If a Skype icon does not appear on your home screen, then you may need to search for the program in your applications folder.

      Log in to your Skype account to use Skype.
