How to Apply for a Golf Scholarship

If you play golf and are interested in doing so at the collegiate level, you may be able to get a partial or full golf scholarship to college. According to Junior Golf Scoreboard, full golf scholarships are more common for female golfers than male golfers. Additionally, Division III schools are the only schools that do not award athletic scholarships. You do not have to attend a four-year university to get a golf scholarship, because junior colleges also award athletic scholarships.

Sign up for the "PING American College Golf Guide on the College Golf" website. As of May 2011, the fee for access is $19.95. The PING guide will show you which colleges have golf programs, if you are not sure which college you want to attend.

Contact the school you are interested in attending to confirm the golf scholarship qualifications. Ask about the school's scholarship programs, because a variety of organizations fund golf scholarships, such as the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the National Junior College Athletic Association and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. You can also find out if the school offers any of its own scholarships. Additional golf scholarships can be found on the Fastweb and Junior Golf Guide websites.

    • 3

Ask for a golf scholarship application from each school you are interested in attending. Some schools have the scholarship form online, so you may be able to access it on your own without waiting for it to arrive by mail.

    • 4

Read over the instructions for each application to take note of the filing deadline. If you do not get your application submitted by the deadline, you will not be considered for one of the golf scholarships.

    • 5

Complete a scholarship application for each school or scholarship that you want to apply for. Carefully read the instructions to be certain that you include all supplemental materials for the application. The supplemental items you must include will vary. Once you have everything complete, you can submit it to the school using the address on the application form.
