How to Tie & Wear a Headscarf

A headscarf stylishly keeps hair out of your face.

A headscarf can be a cute addition to any outfit, make you feel glam on a rainy day or pull your hair out of your face at the beach or while outdoors. You may look at a scarf and not know exactly what to do with it, but there are options to give you the look you want. Headscarves can be made of cotton, silk or other fabrics and come in many colors and designs, including the tried-and-true bandanna.

Instructions

Simple Look

1. Fold your scarf in half with the opposite edges meeting together, so it looks like a large triangle.

2. Place the longest side of the triangle shape along the top of your forehead. Make sure it is centered.

3. Take each end of the triangle and tie together at the back of your head. You can tie the ends over your hair, or pull the edges under your hair, where the knot won't be seen. Adjust the scarf as necessary.

Retro Look

1. Fold the scarf into a large triangle.

2. Place the scarf on your head with the top point of the triangle draped over your forehead, and the other two edges hanging to the sides. The fabric should cover your head.

3. Bring each edge up and over your head and tie the ends together. Add in the triangle point that is over your forehead. All three ends will be tied together at the top of your head to create a retro look.

4. Tuck in any loose ends so nothing hangs down in your face.

Elegant Look

1. Fold the scarf into a triangle by bringing the opposite edges together.

2. Place the long edge on top of your head along your forehead, with the other two edges hanging down around your cheeks.

3. Tie the edges together in a knot under your chin for a simple yet glamorous starlet look. If the scarf is long enough, drape the ends over your shoulder.
