1
Create a new document by selecting "New" from the file tab. Select the number of pages in your document. Select "1" if you are not sure how many pages will be in your document. Additional pages can be added later. Check the box next to "Facing pages" if your pages will be facing each other, such as in a book. If you are creating a single-sided document to be placed in a binder, uncheck this box.

2
Select a page size. Select letter size or one of the other preset sizes from the drop-down box. You may customize a page size by choosing the height and width fields. The default measurement is picas, but you can add inches or centimeters (cm) when customizing your page size. Select the number of columns you would like per page. Choose one column and add more later if needed. Enter the gutter setting between columns. This is the white space between columns.

3
Set your margins. This is the area around the edge of the page that will not be printed on. If you set this to zero, the text will begin at the very edge of the corner. Be sure to set large enough margins to accommodate the fact that most printers will not print to the edge of the paper. The default margin settings are set to fit most printers. Click "OK." Your new document is now ready for your text and graphics.
