How to Draw a Turtle Cartoon

Cartoon drawing is a fun skill for all ages.

Express creativity through learning how to draw cartoons. A great starting point to learn how to draw cartoon animals is with the turtle. This simple design is symmetrical and simple. Add detail where desired to make the cartoon unique and artistic.

Instructions

1. 

   The turtle is a great animal to model a cartoon after.

   Begin drawing the cartoon turtle with two basic shapes; an oval and a rectangle. Draw the rectangle with the longest sides extending from top to bottom. Add an oval to the top of the rectangle to complete the outline of the turtle's head. Layer the oval slightly over the rectangle so it appears that the neck is extending outwards from the head. Round the edges of the bottom of the rectangle to create a curved appearance.

   Drawing cartoons is a great way to show creativity.

   Add detail within the oval to create a face for the cartoon turtle. Be creative in this step, adding large eyes, small rounded nostrils and a smile depending on the desired final cartoon.

3. 

   Perfect the cartoon turtle by adding unique details.

   Add to the cartoon turtle by completing the shell. Ensure that both sides of the shell are symmetrical. Begin by drawing two parallel sideways "S" lines extending from the center of the turtle's neck. The "S" lines should be parallel to bottom of the page. Complete the turtle's shell by drawing two arcs extending from the center head of the turtle down towards to "S" lines. Close off the ends of the "S" lines completing the turtle's shell.

4. 

   Coloring the turtle cartoon will add further detail.

   Complete the turtle's feet by drawing a curved line directly underneath the bottom of the neckline. Connect the curved line to the bottom half of the shell with two lines extending outward and upward. This newly formed line will be the space in which the feet will extend. Draw two curved rectangles to the left and the right extending from the previously drawn inner arcs to create the feet. Add back feet to the design by repeating this step in a smaller form.

5. 

   Display the cartoon drawing in a place where other's can see the work.

   Finish the cartoon turtle by adding a unique design to the shell. Add circles, diamonds, triangles, or any other desired pattern. Add nails by drawing small circles along the edges of the feet. Color in the drawing to complete the cartoon turtle design.
