Separate profiles can be convenient for two people using Outlook on the same computer.

Microsoft Outlook 2007 is an email client capable of maintaining numerous email accounts at once allowing you to receive and send messages from any of them. In some cases you might prefer to use different "Profiles" in Outlook, which are complete sets of Outlook settings and email accounts. Anything you set up within one Outlook profile, such as the email accounts it accesses, is unique and each profile is entirely independent of the others. While creating new profiles can take time copying a profile is fairly simple and should only take you a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Close Outlook if it's currently open.

    • 2

Click the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of the screen and click "Control Panel."

    • 3

Click the "Mail" or "Mail 32-bit" icon, whichever you see. If you do not see either of them, near the upper-right corner of the window click the word "Category" beside "View by" and then select either "Large icons" or "Small icons," whichever you prefer. The "Mail" icon should now be available.

    • 4

      Click "Show Profiles..."

    • 5

Select the profile you want to copy from the list.

    • 6

      Click the "Copy..." button.

    • 7

Type in a name for the new profile and click "OK" in the "Copy Profile" window then click "OK" in the "Mail" utility.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're using Windows Vista you do not have a "Category" view for the Control Panel, and you may not be able to locate the "Mail" icon anywhere. Click "Classic View" in the left-hand side of the Control Panel and look for "Mail." If you still don't see it, double-click "View 32-bit Control Panel Items."

  • You can change profile properties by selecting them in the "Mail" utility and then clicking "Properties," and you can set Outlook to default to one of them or always ask you which profile to use.

  • In the "Mail" utility, you can configure Outlook to default to a certain profile or to prompt you each time it starts to select a profile.
