Wontons can either be filled with stuffing or fried alone to make a delicious accompaniment to soups and other Asian cuisine. However, wontons can also be fried and used as garnish, set around a main course of chicken, beef strips or a pork roast. Wonton wrappers can typically be found in most grocery stores. However, you may also look for them in an Asian market if you have one close to you. Wonton wrappers are fairly pliable when still uncooked, but are not as flimsy as other doughs such as filo, and are a little easier to work with. Does this Spark an idea?

  • cutting board
  • knife
  • deep skillet
  • wonton wrappers
  • canola oil
  • paper towel

Instructions

      Pour 2 cups of canola oil into a deep skillet and set it to medium heat and allow it to warm up.

      Peel the wonton skins apart and lay them flat on a cutting board.

      Use the knife to cut them into thin strips.

      Drop the wonton pieces into the hot oil. Allow the wonton strips to cook for approximately five minutes, or until they are flaky and light brown in color.

      Remove the fried wonton wrappers from the hot oil with a spatula. Set them on a plate layered with paper towel

      Arrange the fried wonton pieces strategically around the main meat dish or casserole, along the borders, as a garnish.
