How to Properly Make a White Russian

Both the White Russian and the Black Russian cocktails are the products of a single drink, the Russian, a cocktail made of gin and crème de cacao. Those ingredients have since been replaced by vodka and a coffee liqueur such as Kahlua, Tia Maria or Starbucks' coffee liqueur. The difference between the White and Black Russian is the cream or milk that is added to the White Russian. An iconic cocktail glorified in the cult film classic "The Big Lebowski," this drink is rich and creamy. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings

  • The exact proportions of ingredients vary from person to person. Preferences dictate whether there is more vodka than liqueur or less, and what type of dairy is used. Some like plain milk and others like pure cream.

  • Because this cocktail has a lot of liquor in it that is muted by the richness of the light cream, it can inebriate faster than expected.

  • Be responsible in when drinking and enlist the aid of a designated driver.
