How to Change Your Google Voice Caller ID

Google Voice is an Internet-based calling solution that allows you to call domestic and international landlines and cellphones for fixed, often low rates. If you set your Google Voice account as such, the service forwards calls others make to your Google Voice phone number to your cellphone. Adjust your Google Voice caller ID settings to change your preferences on which number appears on your cellphone's screen when you receive a forwarded Google Voice call.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter your Google username and password into the blank fields on the Google Voice website if you're not already signed into another Google service, such as Gmail or Blogger.

    • 2

Click the "Gear" icon in the top, right corner of the main Google Voice screen and click "Voice Settings." Click the "Calls" tab.

    • 3

Scroll down to the "Caller ID" pane and click your mouse inside the circle beside the option which best reflects you prefer. Select "Display Caller's Number" to show the number of the person calling you on your screen when you receive a call or "Display My Google Voice Number," which simply reminds you that a given call is coming from Google Voice.

Tips & Warnings

  • It isn't possible to change the information a caller sees when you call him using Google Voice as of May 2011, only the number that displays when you send a text using the service.
