If you change the price of an item by putting it on sale, edit the price in QuickBooks.

Editing products is necessary, if you wish to change the product cost, sales price, description, expense account, income account or number. You can also set a preferred vendor as a supplier of the product. Products are entered into QuickBooks as Items. Edit products in the Item List, using either the Edit Item window or the Edit Multiple List Entries window.

Instructions

  1. Edit Item

    • 1

      Open QuickBooks, click "Lists" in the top menu and select "Item List" from the sub-menu to open the Item List.

      Enter the product you would like to edit in the Look for text box in the Item List.

      Double-click the item you would like to edit in the Item List to open the item in the Edit Item window.

      Edit any elements of the item (product) following on-screen instructions. Editable fields include Item Name, Number, Sub-item of, Unit of Measure, Purchase Information and Sales Information. Click the "OK" button when you are done, to save the changes.

    Edit Multiple List Entries

      Open QuickBooks, click "Lists" in the top menu and select "Add/Edit Multiple List Entries" to open the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries window.

      Click the pull-down arrow next to List in the top left corner of the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries window and select "Service Items."

      Click the pull-down arrow next to View on the top line of the window and select either; "All," "Active," "Inactive," "Unsaved," "Errors" or "Custom."

      Enter a search term in the find box and click the "Search" button to find the item or items you wish to edit. This step is only necessary, if you cannot find the item on the list without it.

      Click on the item you would like to edit and make your changes. Use the Tab key to move from field to field. Press the "Enter" key to record your changes. Click "OK" in the Record Saved dialog box. Click the "Close" button in the lower-right corner when you are done.
