How to Crochet a Headband With a 2" Width
Making a crochet headband is a simple project for someone learning to crochet. The project is also a low-cost way to make a quick gift or accessory for any girl who likes to wear something in her hair. A crochet headband with a 2-inch width works well to hold back hair or cover cold ears during the winter months. After learning the basic crochet stitch and pattern, experiment with more advanced stitches to create headbands in a variety of styles.

1
Measure the circumference of the head, following the ring from the forehead to the neck hairline where you normally wear a headband. Subtract 1 inch from the measurement for the length you need to crochet.
-
2
Make a chain of 10 stitches with a G crochet hook and worsted weight yarn. The gauge is not important for a headband.
-
-
3
Turn the chain row around so the crochet hook is on the right side of the work. Skip the first chain next to the hook and single crochet in each remaining chain for the first row.
-
4
Chain one stitch at the end of the row and turn the piece around so the crochet hook is on the right side. Skip the first stitch and single crochet in the back loops only across the piece to create a stretchy, ribbed headband.
-
5
Repeat Step 4 until the piece is the adjusted head measurement taken in Step 1.
-
6
Cut the yarn so there is a 6-inch long tail. Remove the hook from the last stitch and pull on the loop to create a knot in the yarn.
-
7
Hold the two short ends together and slip-stitch across the edge using the crochet hook and yarn tail to sew the headband together. Weave the remaining yarn tail through the seam with the crochet hook or a darning needle to hold it in place. Clip off the tail to finish the headband.

Tips & Warnings
Crochet a flower or other small figure as an embellishment for the headband.
Use a poly-blend or cotton yarn in worsted weight for a washable headband. Wool and wool-blends work well for an ear cover.
