There are few things more annoying than realizing your foot is asleep. Getting up from a sitting position when your foot is asleep can pose a huge problem. In order to prevent injury, wake up your foot first! Here's how you can wake up a sleeping foot in any position!

Run your fingers and fingernails gently over the affected area. Start with the bottom half of your leg. Doing this is encouraging the blood flow to your foot. You desperately need this.

Move your foot very slowly. You don't want to even move it an inch. Simply start rocking the foot back and forth.

Now roll your fingertips along the bottom of your foot, keeping in time with the vibrations of your foot. Waking up a sleeping foot can sometimes feel like being pricked by needles, and you want to avoid that at all costs. Proceed with gentleness.

Start to move your foot for a longer length. Instead of vibrating, try to put pressure on your foot. Test the entire foot for sensitivity. You should be able to feel all sensations that touch your foot at this time.

Push your foot down on the ground as though you are about to stand. If you feel the ground fully and no more tingling sensations, then you are ready to go. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as many times as needed until you are literally on your feet!

Tip

  • Try to get your mind off your sleeping foot while trying to wake it up. Don't focus on any pain.

Tip

  • Consult your doctor if this is a recurring symptom.
