How to Bleed a Meyers Snow Plow

How to Bleed a Meyers Snow Plow thumbnail
Hydraulic systems function by delivering fluid under high pressure.

Hydraulic systems place fluid under high pressure to facilitate the operation of mechanical devices. Examples of hydraulically powered devices are the flight controls on jetliners, the arms on bulldozers and the brakes on a car. For hydraulic systems to function properly, air must be bled from the system to allow the fluid to achieve maximum pressure. Bleeding the air from a Meyers snow plow should be performed as part of regular maintenance.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cap from the hydraulic fluid reservoir with a wrench. Top off the reservoir with fresh hydraulic fluid and replace the cap.

    • 2

Loosen the hydraulic hose fittings---using a wrench---where the hoses connect to the hydraulic cylinders. Loosen the fittings only until fluid begins to drip from the connections.

    • 3

Cycle the plow through all of its functions. Use the plow controls to lift and lower and move the plow side to side---10 times in each direction.

    • 4

Re-tighten the hydraulic hose fittings. Top off the reservoir with fresh hydraulic fluid.
