How to Research Closed Sales on eBay

Before selling something on eBay, it is beneficial to research not only what people are selling a similar item for, but what has actually sold and not sold at different price points. To do this, you need to look at closed sales on eBay. Fortunately, this is very easy to do.

Instructions

    • 1

Browse to eBay. Enter the item you want to research in the text box at the top to the left of the "All Categories" drop-down menu. Click "Search."

    • 2

Click the "Choose More" link under the "Buying formats" section in the menu on the left. In the "Preferences" window that opens up, click the check box next to "Completed" under the "Show only" section on the right. Click "Go."

    • 3

Continue to narrow down the search by using categories, condition and price range to refine the search to exactly what you are trying to research. By looking at which prices are in green and which in red, you can easily determine which items have actually sold and for how much.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are planning on opening up your item to the highest bidder, you may want to restrict your search to auctions by clicking the "Auctions only" tab at the top of the search results.

  • EBay auction results can vary wildly. Just because something sold for a certain amount doesn't mean you will be able to get the same results. On the other hand, you may want to consider a minimum bid so you don't give the item away.
