How to Make a Website 508 Compliant
Section 508 refers to a part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. It mandates that federal agencies make their information technology usable by people with disabilities. For example, a visually impaired person may need a screen reader to navigate a government website. The website must accommodate that user to be section 508 compliant. Section 508 only applies to federal agencies, although many state governments, public institutions and private companies abide by the standard.
