How to Play the Space Stage in "Spore"

You are free to explore the universe once you reach the Space Stage of "Spore."

"Spore" is a real-time strategy for the PC that allows you to create an alien race as they age from small bacteria to interstellar juggernauts. The game is divided into five distinct stages with the final stage being the open-ended Space Stage. In this stage, you have few tasks and responsibilities to maintain, and you are not faced with any permanent or overarching objectives. You are free to explore the galaxy and play the game however you like.

Instructions

1. Create colonies on uninhabited planets. Many of the universe's planets are not inhabitable immediately, so you have to purchase Atmosphere Generators and other Colony Packs to increase the Terra Score, also known as T-Score, to make the planet habitable. Dropping these items can help stabilize the planet's atmosphere, making it possible for your alien race to colonize the planet.

2. Increase your diplomatic relations with other alien races. There are hundreds of alien races in the "Spore" universe, so it never hurts to make friends with some of your surrounding alien races. Giving gifts to alien civilizations can help avoid future conflicts and you will eventually receive the option to open a trade route with the race. This can increase the amount of resources you receive, making your civilization significantly stronger.

3. Perform side-quests as they are given to you via your ship's radio transmitter. You will frequently receive side-quests that usually only take a few minutes to complete. Completing these missions will often reward you with monetary value.

4. Defend your planets from pirates and other hostile alien races. Your colonized planets will often become attacked by other races, so you will need to defend your planets by attacking the other races with your spaceship. Your spaceship has several weapons already built-in, such as a laser beam. Clicking any of the buttons on the bottom toolbar will cause you to fire any additional weapons, such as rockets.

• If you are looking for a strong challenge, you can try to make it to the center of the universe by navigating the system's surrounding stars.
