How to Turn off the Volume in Firefox
When you visit websites in the Firefox Web browser, multimedia content on the sites often plays automatically. Common multimedia items include streaming videos, background music and advertisements that contain audio or video elements. Although you can usually mute many of these items when they start playing, you may want to ensure that no sounds ever come from the application at all. You can use the volume controls in Windows to mute Firefox or change the current volume level.

Launch Firefox if you're not using it already, then visit a website that contains some type of audio or video content. Mozilla Firefox usually doesn't display in the Windows volume settings unless multimedia content is playing in the program.

2
Click the speaker icon in the Windows notification tray area, and click "Mixer" to view the sound settings for each of your open programs. If you don't see the speaker icon, right-click the notification area and click "Properties." Select "On" from the drop-down menu beside "Volume" on the "Turn System Icons On or Off" window, and click "OK."

The name of the label can vary depending on the content you're currently viewing. Click the speaker icon again at any time to turn Firefox's audio back on. Click and drag the volume meter up or down if you'd rather increase or decrease the volume in the program. Close the window to exit the mixer settings.
