How to Host a Live Twitter Chat
Hosting a live Twitter chat event is not difficult. All you need is a Twitter account and a unique hashtag for your topic. Making sure your event is a success, however, will require planning and work beforehand. You should make your topic clear, and let people know when the event will be held. Make sure your Twitter friends will be online to participate in the chat. The more people chatting, using your hashtag, the more likely others will join the conversation.

1
Choose a topic for your Twitter chat. Your chat will have a greater chance of success if it is a topic that is not being discussed regularly on Twitter.
-
2
Choose a Twitter hashtag. This is one word, or an abbreviation, preceded by the "#" symbol. The hashtag should be as short as possible so that it does not take up too much of the 140 character limit on tweets. Type the hashtag in the Twitter search field to make sure it is not already being used.

3
Decide on a time and date for your Twitter chat. Regular chats are often done weekly on Twitter, on the same day and time. Some chats are done twice if there are people in different time zones who want to participate in the chat.
-
4
Start a blog or create a Web page for your Twitter Chat. It is difficult to explain what a chat is about in tweet form alone. Let visitors know when the chat will be held, what it is about and what the hashtag is. Invite people to follow you on Twitter from the Web page. Tweet a link to the Web page often in advance of the chat.
-
5
Go to the Twitter Resources page, from the link on your Twitter profile. Create a Search Widget, using your chat hashtag. Copy the code for this widget to your chat web page.
