How to Make Curved Friendship Bracelets

Some friendship bracelets are flat while others are curved or round. Flat friendship bracelets are made by tying a knot around each string individually. To make the bracelet curve, you tie a knot around all the other strings at once. Making a curved bracelet is simple enough for beginners or young children to try. Use three or four colors of embroidery floss the first time you make a bracelet. As you gain experience, use more pieces of thread for thicker bracelets.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather the four pieces of floss together and line up the ends. Tie the pieces together about 1 inch from one end.

    • 2

Push a safety pin through the knot and attach to the leg of your jeans or a stable couch cushion. If you'd rather not use a safety pin, tape the knot to a flat work surface, such as a table or desk.

    • 3

Separate one piece of thread from the rest and put it on the left. Group the other three pieces of thread together.

    • 4

Loop the separate thread over the other three, so that you have what looks like a "4" made out of thread. Bring the end of the separate thread underneath the three threads, then pull it tight to close the loop and make a knot. Repeat 10 times. After the 10th knot, leave the separate piece on the right side.

    • 5

Pull another piece of thread out to the left from the group of thread. Loop it over the other three pieces, to form a "4," then bring it under and pull tightly to make a knot. Repeat 10 times, then repeat with the remaining two pieces of thread. Continue tying the a single piece of thread over the other three until you have a bracelet long enough to fit around your wrist.

    • 6

Trim off any excess embroidery floss so that you have about 1 inch of loose thread on each end. Tie the ends together with the bracelet around your wrist or the wrist of a friend.
