Disassembly Instructions for an Acer TravelMate 2420
The Acer Travelmate is a budget PC laptop that comes with features such as wireless Internet and a Celeron M processor. Over time it is possible for certain components, such as the RAM or hard drive, to require upgrading or to be replaced altogether. Whatever the issue with your Travelmate may be, it is likely that you will have to disassemble it if you need to replace parts.

Turn off your Acer Travelmate and unplug the power cable. Close the screen and turn the computer upside down.

Unplug the rectangular battery from its port on the bottom of the computer, and locate the three compartments on the bottom. One of these houses the fan assembly, the other contains the RAM and Wi-Fi card and the last holds the rectangular hard drive.

Remove the screws holding all three compartment covers in place and remove the compartment covers to expose the components.

Pull the retaining tabs at either end of the green memory module outward and the module will pop up. Remove it. The Wi-Fi card is in the same compartment as the memory.

Unplug the antenna cable which connects to a port at the end of the plastic Wi-Fi card.

Remove the screws holding the Wi-Fi card in place and remove the card.

Slide the hard drive out of its compartment and set it aside.

Remove the screws at the corners of the black fan assembly and remove the fan assembly.

Remove all screws from the bottom of the laptop.

Turn the laptop right side up and open the display screen.

Use the tip of your screwdriver to pop off the rectangular panel that sits above the keyboard. Set the panel aside.

Remove the two screws above the keyboard.

Lift the keyboard up from the top and unplug the thick ribbon cable that runs from the back of the keyboard to the port on the top of the computer.

Locate the ribbon just above the touch pad and unplug it from its port on the top of the computer.

Remove all screws from the top panel of the computer.

Remove the top case of the computer and the unit will be disassembled. You will have access to the motherboard.
