Box cutters cut boxes down to a smaller size.

In an ideal world, any item you'd like to ship will fit exactly into a box, keeping it from sliding around and getting damaged. But it doesn't always work that way. It's especially troubling if the item in the box is fragile. Knowing how to cut down the height of the box comes in handy in situations like this.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the item you'll ship or store into the box. Set a ruler on top of the tallest point of the item extending it out to the side of the box.

    • 2

Use a pencil to mark the tallest point of the item within the box. Mark all four sides of the box with this height measurement.

    • 3

Cut vertically down the corner folds until you get to the pencil mark that represents the tallest point of the item in the box. Fold the flaps over and cut off any excess so the box folds evenly. Fold the flaps down and tape it shut over your item.
