Fighting with your legs can be an effective and powerful way to defend yourself from an attack. The entire core, or center of the body is used. There are many styles of martial arts that train you in the use of your legs, but these all take time and intense practice. If you find yourself in a threatening situation where you need to defend yourself during an attack, there are a few important tips and techniques you should try. 1
Stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Bend at the knees. Never lock your knees into a straight-legged position.
-
2
Block oncoming strikes with strong arms and hands. Bring both hands up in front of you. Make loose fists with your hands. Use your hands to protect yourself from your attacker's strike.

3
Kick your attacker at the waist area or lower, if you are not a trained fighter. Your opponent may grab your leg and knock you off balance if you kick any higher. Kick strong and hard, keeping the knee slightly bent.

Run away from the conflict if at all possible. Aim for your attacker's groin, shins or knees. The full impact of the hit should come from your core and down through your entire leg. Keep your eyes open while sending the kick. You need to see where to land your foot. Run for help once the attacker is hurt or down.
