How to Turn Off Call Waiting While Using a Modem

If you have call waiting, you might find that you are bumped off the Internet every time someone is trying to phone you. Luckily, you can usually disable this feature.

Things You'll Need:

    Disable Call Waiting for Single Sessions

  1. Step 1

    Disable call waiting for single sessions by using a Disable Call Waiting code.

  2. Step 2

    Check your phone book or contact your telephone company to get the Disable Call Waiting code for your area. Depending on where you live, it will be one of the following three codes: *70, 70# or 1170.

  3. Step 3

    Dial the code, followed by the number you are trying to reach.

  4. Step 4

    Place a comma between the code and the number to make your modem pause and wait for a dial tone.

  5. Have Call Waiting Automatically Disabled Whenever You Use Your Modem

  6. Step 1

    Use your computer's modem settings to automatically disable Call Waiting whenever you use your modem. You can change this setting whenever you want.

  7. Step 2

    Go to your computer's Start menu and go to the Control Panel.

  8. Step 3

    Click on Modems.

  9. Step 4

    Configure your modem setting to disable Call Waiting using the Disable Call Waiting code provided by the phone company.
