How to Remote Install Snow Leopard

If you have a Macbook Air or a Mac computer without an optical disc drive, it will be necessary to install Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard as a 'Remote Install'. Remote Install is a utility that means you can install your Mac operating system over your network without the Mac computer needing the disc to be inserted. You will still need the Mac OS X disc in the remote computer however.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the Mac OS X disc into the remote computer. Click "Applications," then "Utilities" and then "Remote Install."

    • 2

Follow the on screen prompts to choose your network type, click "Continue" throughout. Continue through the prompts until you are prompted to restart the other computer.

    • 3

Hold down the "Option" or "Alt" key on the computer you want to install the OS on and restart the computer. Hold this key down until the boot disks appear on screen.

    • 4

Click "Continue" on the remote computer when the button appears.

    • 5

Click the "Snow Leopard" disc on the installation computer. Click "Continue" throughout. Change the user options to your personal preferences if desired.

Tips & Warnings
