How to Make a Simple Maze

How to Make a Simple Maze thumbnail
Even a simple-looking maze can be challenging.

A maze is a puzzle that requires you to follow a complex set of pathways to get to the end. Mazes can have various degrees of difficulty. There are several ways to create a maze, including simple standard mazes that consist of line diagrams drawn on paper, and challenging number mazes that require you to find a route based on a series of numbers. For a homemade maze, start with a simple design using marbles that will frustrate as much as it delights.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw 10-inch square on the foam board, leaving a two-inch margin around the border. Use a ruler to draw a square grid composed of 10 horizontal lines and 10 vertical lines, with the squares 1 inch apart.

    • 2

Paint the squares different colors. Label the top left corner square as the "Start" and the bottom right corner square as the "Finish." You can also combine squares to create rectangles. Let dry.

    • 3

Insert pushpins into all the square intersections. Wrap rubber bands around the pushpins to create pathways and routes.

    • 4

Place a few marbles in the "Start" square and navigate the marbles toward the "Finish" square by tilting the board back and forth.
