How to Set Up SonicWALL TZ 180

Secure your Internet connection with a SonicWALL TZ 180.

SonicWALL has built a reputation for producing quality wireless networking products that provide security in multiple layers. The TZ 180 provides anti-virus protection to keep malware off your networked computers and content filtering services to keep your users from accessing dangerous websites. In addition, the TZ 180 provides a deep packet inspection firewall, VPN support and intrusion prevention, all at a reasonable price.

Instructions

1. Attach both antennae to the back of the TZ 180 using the provided antenna ports. The antennae are adjustable for achieving maximum signal reach.

2. Plug in the TZ 180 using the provided power supply. The panel lights will flicker on and off as the device goes through its series of self-tests. When the "Test" light goes off and stays off, you may begin device configuration.

3. Connect the "WAN" port of the TZ 180 to your router or modem using a standard LAN patch cable. When the "WAN" light comes on, you have a good connection.

4. Connect LAN Port 1 on the TZ 180 to your computer's Ethernet port using the Ethernet cable that came with the TZ 180. When the "Port 1" light illuminates, you have a good connection.

5. Open a Web browser and turn off pop-up blocking. Enter "http://192.168.168.168" as the URL and press "Enter" to display the Web management login screen.

6. Log into the administrative interface using "admin" as the user ID and "password" as the password.

7. Select the "Setup Wizard" radio button and click "Next."

8. Enter the information as requested by the prompts. When you have the opportunity to change the user name and password, do so and record the values you enter. Based on the information you enter, the device may need to restart.

9. When the TZ 180 has rebooted, navigate again to the 192.168.168.168 address using your Web browser and login with your new user name and password. If the "Security" dashboard displays, you have correctly configured your TZ 180.

10. Navigate to an Internet site such as http://www.sonicwall.com/ to test your gateway configuration. If the site displays, your device is correctly configured.

Tips & Warnings

• Be sure to configure your computer to use DHCP on the LAN interface.
