How to Fix My Eyebrows

How to Fix My Eyebrows thumbnail
Well-groomed eyebrows are necessary for a tidy look.

Eyebrows serve to frame the face and can dramatically define your eyes if done correctly. Brows do not need to be thin to look great. In fact; thick brows look just as stylish when groomed correctly. However, brows look untidy when hairs creep toward the nose bridge or spread out beyond the far corner of the eye. Instead of copying a look you saw on someone else, find the best-shaped eyebrows for your own face. Aim for smooth, arched eyebrows that taper slightly near the outer corners of the eyes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Mark the innermost point for your best eyebrows. This imaginary line runs up from the inner corner of your eye for a start to the brow that frames your eyes without overshadowing them.

    • 2

Pluck all the eyebrow hairs that grow from that line toward the nose. This prevents the emergence of a "unibrow" and keep brows less unruly. Do not over-pluck, as sparse brows do not accentuate the eyes at all.

    • 3

Hold a dowel (a thin makeup brush works well, too) at the side of your nose, keeping the tip of the instrument in line with the corner of your eye. Sweep the dowel in an arc across that same eye until the tip rests against the corner of your eye. Hold the dowel at the same angle until the instrument and your eyebrow meet. All eyebrow hairs below this second line should be plucked.

    • 4

Pluck accordingly, and mirror the process on your second eye. If you overdo it on one side, do not pluck the opposite side to match. Instead, use a brow pencil to fill in the gap until your hair regrows.

    • 5

Determine the brow shape needed to complement your eyes. Small eyes are best framed by thinner brows, while fuller brows accentuate big eyes. A guideline is the upper rim of your orbital cavity, as this is the natural distance for your eyebrows from your eyes. Any hair too far above or below this line should be removed.

    • 6

Shape the arch of your eyebrow. The highest point of your arch should lie two-thirds of the way into your eyebrow, just above the outer edge of the iris. Pluck low-growing hairs in this area and ease the shape of the arch into the rest of the eyebrow.

    • 7

Comb your eyebrows outward, so all the hairs lay flat. If the hairs are still unruly, brush over them with an eye pencil.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pluck your eyebrows just after your shower to ensure that skin is soft enough for the hairs to come out without unnecessary pain.

  • Pluck in the direction the eyebrow hairs grow to make them easier to remove.
