How to Convert NEF to Tiff

NEF files are Nikon Electronic Format files. They are the raw image files saved on Nikon cameras. A NEF file is an uncompressed RAW image. Tiff, or TIF, files are high quality images that support the use of multiple layers and pages. Tiff files can be compressed or uncompressed, and they are ideal when working with digital photos. If you want to convert a NEF file to Tiff format, you need a photo viewer or editor that supports both formats, such as Google Picasa, Adobe Photoshop or ACDSee Photo Manager.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a program that supports NEF and TIF files (see Resources).

    • 2

Open the NEF file in your chosen viewer.

    • 3

Click "File" and click "Save as."

    • 4

Rename the file's suffix to make it a Tiff file. For example, if you named your NEF file "family.nef," you'd change it to "family.tif."
