How to Draw a Baby Mountain Lion for Beginners
Baby animals are appealing subjects to draw, but there can be many differences between a young animal and an adult. When drawing baby animals, an artist needs to look for differences in markings, color and shape, as well as the more immature appearance of the face. A major difference between a baby and adult mountain lion is that the baby mountain lion has a spotted coat. Other facial markings remain into adulthood.

1
Begin the drawing from the top of the mountain lion's head, noting the mixture of stripes and spots there. Place the ears, paying careful attention to shading. The ears have more contrast than any other part of the animal's face. Study the hairs in the ears, and the lines close to the ears' edges. Next, draw and shade the area under the ears.

2
Note the two black, vertical, triangular-shaped stripes on the baby mountain lion's head -- one above each eye. Draw these, before moving on to draw the black outlines of the mountain lion's eyes. Shade the irises of the eyes.

Portray the broad nose by drawing a thin, curved line between the bottom part of the eyes. Add the two broad black lines that begin under the animal's nose, and on either side, which then surround the mouth. Draw the tip of the animal's pink nose slightly lighter than the middle of the nose. Just above the nose, the shading should be lighter still.

4
Leave the area which is surrounded blank, as it is white in color. The mouth should be in the shape of a wide, inverted "v," and a small portion of the animal's lip should be drawn underneath. Gently shade underneath the lip. The mouth should be joined to the nose by a single black line. Add a pair of whiskers, beginning from the white area, to both the left and right cheek of the baby mountain lion. The baby mountain lion's face should generally be of a lighter shade below the eyes than above. The chin should also be white.

5
Move on to draw the animal's powerful front paws, which should have a splayed appearance at the front, and be lighter in color near the claws. The chest of the baby mountain lion is mostly white, and so use mostly light shading for this area.
