How to Clear the Drop Down Menu in Mozilla Firefox

If you don't clear your browsing history, others may view it.

Firefox's "autocomplete" feature helps speed up your Web browsing experience. Whenever you type in the browser's location bar, a drop-down menu appears. This menu may contain a mixture of previously visited websites and entries from your bookmarks collection. Although this feature makes it easier to revisit old sites, you may want to clear this drop-down menu when it becomes too large. Clearing the menu can reduce its size and prevent others from viewing your browsing history if you share the computer.

Instructions

  1. Clear Browsing History

    • 1

Launch Firefox and click "Tools" to display a drop-down menu.

    • 2

Click the "Clear Recent History" option to view the "Clear Recent History" pop-up window.

    • 3

Click "Details." A list of options appears. Remove the check marks from all options, and place a check mark next to "Browsing & Download History."

    • 4

      Click "Clear Now."

    Clear Bookmarks

    • 5

Click the "Tools" button again, and then click "Options" to display the "Options" window.

    • 6

Click "Privacy" and find the "Location Bar" section near the bottom of the window.

    • 7

Click the drop-down box in that section and click "Nothing."

    • 8

      Click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not worry about losing your bookmarks by choosing "Nothing" in the previous section. Firefox simply stops displaying them in the drop-down menu when you type in the location bar.
