How to Make a TM Symbol on a PC

The "TM" symbol stands for "Trademark." It's most commonly used to show a registered trademark such as a company name. The ideal method for inserting the "TM" symbol on a PC involves the use of Windows "Alt-Key" codes; however, some computers, such as laptops, do not have the number pad necessary to use the "Alt-Key" codes. If your computer doesn't have a number pad on its right side, use the Windows character map instead to add the "TM" symbol.

Instructions

  1. Using the Number Pad

    • 1

Press and hold either "Alt" button on your keyboard. There is one "Alt" button on each side of the space bar.

    • 2

Type "0153" in quick succession on the keyboard's number pad, while continuing to hold down the "Alt" key. You should see the "TM" symbol appear.

    • 3

Push the "Num Lock" key above the number pad if the symbol did not appear. This makes sure the number pad is turned on. Try the procedure again.

    Using the Character Map

    • 4

Click the Windows "Start" button and click "All Programs."

    • 5

Click the "Accessories" folder then click the "System Tools" folder.

    • 6

Click "Character Map." Browse through the character list until you find the "TM" symbol. Click the symbol, then click "Select."

    • 7

Click "Copy" to place the symbol on the Windows clipboard. Close the Character Map utility by clicking the red "X" symbol in the top-right dorner of its window. Right-click on your document and select "Paste" to insert the "TM" symbol.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are using Microsoft Word, simply type (TM) to create the "TM" symbol. Word's auto-correct feature, which is turned on by default, will automatically change it to the correct symbol.
