How to Use Multiple Profiles on Firefox

The open source Mozilla Firefox Web browser features a profile manager that allows multiple people to use the same Firefox installation while keeping data like history, bookmarks and saved passwords separate. The feature is somewhat hidden in Firefox; you must adjust the browser settings in order to use the profile manager. Once it's configured, you can select between multiple profiles when launching Firefox.

Instructions

    • 1

      Close all open Firefox windows.

    • 2

Click the "Start" button, type "firefox.exe -ProfileManager" into the search box at the bottom of the menu, then press "Enter."

    • 3

      Click "Create Profile."

    • 4

Click "Next," type a profile name into the "Enter new profile name" text box, then click "Finish."

    • 5

Click "Create Profile" again to set up the next profile. Repeat the process as many times as you need to create the set of profiles you would like to use with Firefox.

    • 6

Uncheck the box beside "Don't ask at startup." Firefox prompts you to select a profile each time you start the browser when this option is unchecked.

    • 7

Select the profile you would like to use, then click "Start Firefox."
