How to Plan a Masquerade Ball thumbnail
A masquerade ball can have lots of different themes.

A masquerade ball can be a lot of fun to plan. You can choose from many different types of themes, such as a Mardi Gras masquerade, a Halloween masquerade or a special theme, such as a sweet 16 party or even a prom. Basically, a party becomes a masquerade when all of the guests wear a mask over their faces to hide their identities. Also, all the guests generally dress up in formal wear to add to the atmosphere of the masquerade ball. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a theme for your masquerade ball. This could depend on the occasion, such as Halloween or Mardi Gras, but you can also choose other themes, like a Gothic theme, or a theme of love.

    • 2

Find a location for your masquerade ball. Many masquerade balls are large affairs that will require renting out a banquet hall. However, if you have less than 50 guests, you may be able to host it in a large house, or by utilizing your backyard and setting up tents.

    • 3

Send out the invitations for your masquerade ball at least a few weeks ahead of time. Your friends will have to buy their costumes, and create their masks, so they'll need plenty of time to do so. Include a way to RSVP in the invitation so you know how many people will be attending.

    • 4

Get the decorations for the masquerade ball, and set up a few hours before the ball is to begin. The decorations will largely depend on your theme. For example, for a Mardi Gras masquerade ball, you can purchase festive decorations, such as balloons, confetti, streamers, feathers, beads and lots of other glittery, colorful items. Make sure you'll be able to set up all the decorations yourself, or with the help of friends, and that they all add to the atmosphere of your masquerade ball.

    • 5

Plan activities. For example, voting on the best costume can be a great activity for the night. All guests who want to be considered, can participate in a parade to show off their costumes, and then everyone can have a chance to vote. Activities like this can help break up the night, and make the ball more enjoyable.

    • 6

Order the food once you receive the RSVPs. A caterer can easily make the amount of food you need. If you know how to cook for large groups of people, you can always make some, or all, of the food yourself. Try to choose items that fit with your theme, such as a red velvet cake for a theme of love, or green gelatin dessert with candied eyes for a Halloween theme.

    • 7

Create your own masquerade ball mask. Start with a blank mask from a party supply store. Then, add things like glitter, paints, feathers, sequins and beads to create the perfect match. Be sure it matches the rest of your costume. Once you have your mask made, you'll be all ready for the masquerade ball.
