Make a paper version of the iconic Santa hat.

Get in the Christmas spirit by making a simple Christmas hat, also known as a Santa Claus hat, using a single piece of paper. Paper Christmas hats make for a quick holiday craft for preschool and elementary school students to wear or place on dolls. The paper hats can also be made in larger versions for adults to wear. Consider adding cotton balls to your hat to add some traditional Kris Kringle flare.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the piece of paper so that it is lengthwise. Draw a horizontal line along the bottom of the page that slightly curves up.

    • 2

Add a vertical line coming off each point on the horizontal line to form a triangle with a curved bottom.

    • 3

      Cut out the curved triangle.

    • 4

Apply glue to one of the vertical edges and curve it around to to meet the other vertical edge. Seal the edges together so that the paper forms a cone. Let the glue dry.

    • 5

Glue a cotton ball to the tip of the hat and glue cotton balls around the rim of the hat.

Tips & Warnings

  • An 8.5-inch by 11-inch piece of paper works well for hats to fit on young children. For adults, use a larger piece of paper.
