- Shampoo and conditioner
- Old bathrobe (or sheet or button-up shirt)
- Hand mirror
- Hairspray
- Spray-on shine serum

Wash, condition and dry your hair. Style your hair as required to fit your costume. If possible, wait before applying the hairspray, until after the color spray has been applied -- unless your style is complicated and requires hairspray to effectively stay in place.

Put on an old bathrobe or cover yourself with a sheet or old button up shirt. Hold the spray can one foot from your head and begin spraying it; move the can slowly over sections of your hair continuously spraying to get even coverage.

Allow the first layer to dry and examine your hair for areas you missed. If you are alone use a hand mirror to check the back of your head. Spray areas for five seconds and examine, then spray again as needed, to fully cover patches. Let spray dry for five minutes.

Spray an even layer of hairspray to your do. Allow hairspray to dry for one minute.

Spray a shine serum over your hair with a light mist. Shine serum will give your hair gloss and help to boost the look of your temporary color. Apply a fine layer, as you don't want to weigh it down or apply so much that your hair looks greasy.

Instead of using a shine serum to add some pop, consider purchasing clear Halloween hair spray that has glitter in it to add some eye-catching sparkle.
