How to Make Figures Out of Champagne Wires

The wire that holds the cork in a bottle of champagne has a soft pliability, making it easy to bend and shape without tools. While this small sparkling wine necessity is usually tossed out as soon as the cork pops, these little pieces of twisted wire are just right for making tiny sculptures. Fashion a wire figure or two to entertain guests -- if several bottles of champagne have been opened, you can even have a little after-dinner sculpture show.

  • Remove the metal disk from the center of the wire by pushing it out with your thumb.

  • Remove the piece of wire attached to the base of the wire cage by pulling it up and out of the loops at the ends of the four twisted wires.

  • Flatten the four twisted wires. These will become the figure's arms and legs.

  • Pinch and shape the round part of the wire connected to the four twisted pieces to make a head and body.

  • Shape the other piece of wire into a base for the figure, connecting it to the feet.

  • Pose your champagne wire figure as desired.
