Instructions

  1. Prepping the Surface

    • 1

Remove any existing flooring that is loose or weak. Your new floor will only be as strong as what lies beneath it. Break old ceramic tile by hand or rent a power scraper from your local home center or rental shop. Floor scrapers can also be used to remove previous vinyl installations.

    • 2

Sweep and/or vacuum the floor where the installation takes place. Dust is one of your greatest enemies with vinyl tiles, and you will want to remove as much as possible.

    • 3

Clean the floor with a damp mop to reduce the dust. Return the mop often to the bucket with the soap and water to ensure the mop is as clean as possible.

    • 4

Spot scrub any areas of heavy grease and oil with a combination of warm water and dish soap.

    • 5

Allow the surface to thoroughly dry before attempting to begin installation.

    • 6

Roll on the floor primer with a paint roller. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's recommendations when applying the primer. All concrete floors should be primed prior to vinyl tile installation.

    • 7

Bring the tiles indoors and open the boxes to give the material at least 48 hours to acclimate to the temperature and humidity within the structure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Vinyl tiles can be installed directly on top of old linoleum. Make sure that the surface is clean, smooth and free from any grease or wax.
