How to Play the Card Game Blink

How to Play the Card Game Blink thumbnail
Play Blink with two people.

The card game Blink is a version of Speed. However, the game does not use regular playing cards like Speed but rather special cards. The object of Blink is to be the first person to not have any cards left in his hand. Play the game with just two people who are age seven or older. The game can go quickly, so play in best-of-three or best-of-five formats.

Instructions

  1. Set-Up

    • 1

Deal shuffled cards evenly between the two players.

    • 2

Put one shuffled deck to the front right or left of each player. The pile is known as the draw pile.

    • 3

Take the top card from your draw pile and place it in front of the draw pile. The other player does the same thing. This will make two center piles. Make sure these cards in the center are faced down before play.

    • 4

Pull three cards from the draw pile and look at them, not letting the other player see them.

    Play

    • 5

Turn over the center cards simultaneously by having each player turn over one of the cards. Both players start putting cards down at the same time, without taking turns.

    • 6

Put cards down from your hand into the center pile that having matching characteristics. For example, cards must match the number of symbols on either center card, the color or the shape. If one player puts down a card before the other player, the other player has to keep his card in his hand.

    • 7

Keep no more than three cards in your hand throughout the game. Keep taking cards from your draw pile and play them in the center pile. Only put down one card at a time.

    • 8

Get rid of all your cards from your draw pile by placing them into the center piles and win the game.

Tips & Warnings

  • If neither player is able to put down any cards into the center piles, each player simultaneously pulls the top card from their draw piles and puts them face up into each center pile. If there is no draw pile left for one or both players, they can choose one card from their hands and place them down into the center piles. Play then resumes.

  • If each player has just one card left, the game is considered to be a tie.
