How to Register Slogans

How to Register Slogans thumbnail
Register your slogan with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect it from commercial use by others.

You can protect a slogan by obtaining a trademark for it from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. A trademarked symbol or word cannot be used without the trademark holder's permission. The agency considers similarity when deciding whether to approve a trademark, so slogans that are too similar to existing slogans will not be approved.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's website and click the "Trademarks" tab.

    • 2

Open the Trademark Electronic Search System. The link is on the left side of the screen under "Tools." Type in your desired slogan. If any slogan appears in your search results, determine its similarity to yours.

    • 3

Clicking the Trademark Electronic Application System link, on the left side of the screen under "Tools." Click "Initial Application Form." Click "Trademark/Servicemark Application, Principal Register." The online application is now open.

    • 4

Fill out the requested information, including your name, address and type of entity. Proceed to page 2 of the application.

    • 5

In the space provided, type your slogan in plain text. Proceed to page 3.

    • 6

    • 7

Submit your application. Pay the application fee.
