How to Disable FIPS on Firefox
The Federal Information Processing Standards, or FIPS, governs the use of cryptography and insures hardware and software conforms to United States encryption standards. Mozilla Firefox offers the option of enabling FIPS encryption for passwords stored in your browser. Although enabling FIPS is easy, you might experience considerable difficulty removing it, since the "Disable FIPS" button is likely grayed out. To remedy this situation, you must fully shut down your browser and restart it to restore the "Disable FIPS" function.
