How to Install Netgear Routers

Netgear routers are produced for the home and small business market. Netgear's routers are designed to connect to a single, high-speed connection from an Internet Service Provider, such as cable or DSL, and share the connection among multiple computers on the local area network. The Netgear router automatically acts as a Network Address Translation firewall for every computer and device connected to it. Install a Netgear router to share the high-speed Internet connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Power off the Internet connection device such as the cable or DSL modem.

    • 2

Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the Internet connection device.

    • 3

Power on the Internet connection device and wait approximately two minutes for the signal to synchronize.

    • 4

Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the "Internet" or "WAN" port on the Netgear router.

    • 5

Power on the Netgear router and wait 30 seconds for it to initialize.

    • 6

Connect the client computers and devices to the Netgear router's "LAN" ports with Ethernet cables or connect wirelessly if the Netgear router supports wireless connections.
