How to Find Out If a Name Is Compatible With Yours

According to astrologers and numerologists, numbers carry great significance.

The names of two partners can tell you whether they are a match made in heaven or doomed to fail, according to numerologists. Numerology uses complex number systems to determine a person's personality, life path and ultimate goal. And when two people's numbers match up, these personalities, paths and goals align. This hints at success in business, romance and family.

Instructions

1. Write out your full, given name on a sheet of paper. Many people prefer to use the given name at birth, but you can also incorporate married names or replace first names with nicknames.

2. Assign each letter in each name with the following numbers: 1 for A, J and S; 2 for B, K and T; 3 for C, L and U; 4 for D, M and V; 5 for E, N and W; 6 for F, O and X; 7 for G, P and Y; 8 for H, Q and Z; 9 for I and R.

3. Add up the numbers for each entire name. Write down the total number for each name. For example, if your name is John Smith, then add 7+6+8+5+1+4+9+2+8, which equals 50.

4. If either name number exceeds 9, then add together the digits in the number. Continue doing this until the number equals 9 or less. For example, if your name adds up to 57, then add 5+7 to get 12. Because 12 is greater than 9, add together 1+2 to get 3.

5. Compare the two numbers. Some numerologists believe the following combinations compatible: 1 and 3, 5; 2 and 4 or 6; 3 and 5 or 9; 4 and 7 or 8; 5 and 6 or 7; 6 and 6 or 8; 7 and 7; 9 and 9. Some numerologists believe the following combinations challenging: 1 and 1, 8 or 9; 2 and 5; 3 and 4; 4 and 5 or 9; 5 and 9; 6 and 7; 7 and 8; 8 and 9. The rest of the numbers fall in an intermediate level of compatibility.

Tips & Warnings

• Additional research into numerology will show that a relationship between a 1 and a 3 is very different from a relationship between a 5 and a 6, even though they are both listed as compatible.
