WordPress is customizable software for easy website creation.

WordPress is popular blogging platform that you can install on your website. The software is highly customizable and you can choose from hundreds of themes and plug-ins to tailor your website to suit your needs. When you install WordPress on your website, the default installation shows your most recent blog post at the top of the front page. Instead of setting up your website as a blog, you can customize the layout to display a static homepage for your visitors.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your WordPress website.

    • 2

Create your homepage by clicking "Add New" under the "Pages" section of the WordPress Dashboard. Type "Home" into the "Enter title here" section. Type the content you want to appear on your homepage into the large text box and then click "Publish."

    • 3

Click "Readings" under the Settings section and then click the radio button for "A static page." Click the arrow next to "Front page" to show a drop-down menu. Then, click "Home" to select the page you created in Step 2 and click "Save Changes."

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to utilize the blogging functionality of the WordPress platform as well as having a static homepage, create a second page and name it "Blog." Leave the content area blank and click "Publish." This page acts as a placeholder for WordPress to show your blog posts.
