How to Clean HEPA Air Scrubbers

High efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters are designed to remove up to 100 percent of particles in the air that are 0.3 microns or more in diameter. This helps remove allergens, dust and other material from the air and is an application commonly used in vacuum cleaners, air purifiers and air scrubbers. Air scrubbers pull air in from a given area and push it through a system of filters to clean it. Cleaning HEPA air scrubbers should be done on a regular basis to help keep the machine operating well and removing as many items from the air as possible.

Instructions

1. Turn off and unplug the HEPA air scrubber. Open the inlet panel, removing the screws if necessary.

2. Slide out the HEPA filters and discard. Do not attempt to wash or clean the HEPA filters.

3. Install new HEPA filters approved for the model and brand of the air scrubber being used. Replacement filters can typically be purchased through the manufacturer or in hardware or home retail stores.

4. Replace the inlet panel and screw into place if needed.

5. Straighten out any bends in the ducting to ensure proper air flow. Restore power to the unit.
