How to Port Forward a WNR2000 Router

The Netgear WNR2000 router provides you with a Web-based console application that lets you port forward processes. You port forward when you want to allow access to your internal network from the Internet. For instance, you port forward on a router when you want to allow Remote Desktop from the Internet. You must know the port number you want to use when you set up the configurations.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Web browser on your computer. Type "192.168.1.1" in the navigation text box and press "Enter." Type your Netgear user name and password. Press "Enter."

    • 2

Click the link labeled "Port Forwarding / Port Triggering" in the left panel in the main Netgear console window, which opens the port forwarding settings for the router.

    • 3

Click "Add Service" to create a new port forward setting. Type an application name in the "Service Name" text box. Type the port number in the "Starting Port" and "Ending Port" text boxes.
