How to Draw a Girl in an Akatsuki Cloak

The Akatsuki cloak is part of the costume worn by members of the Akatsuki organization in the manga and anime series "Naruto." The cloak itself is fairly easy to draw, requiring only elementary knowledge in figure drawing. Realistically placing the cloak on a female body, however, may seem more overwhelming. Luckily, all you need to complete this task is basic skills in cartooning and still life. Since the cloak is broad and has few folds, it is easy to draw on the human form.

Instructions

    • 1

Sketch a rough draft of a female figure. Begin with a circle for the head and draw a line extending downward from the bottom of the circle; this represents the figure's spine. Sketch two squares to map out the torso and hips. Draw two lines extending from the torso to map out the arms, do the same for the hips to map out the legs.

    • 2

Create the basic shape of the female figure using your rough draft as a guide. Press lightly with your pencil while drawing. Do not add any inner details such as eyes, mouth, or hair. Focus on drawing the shape of the arms, legs, body and head.

    • 3

Erase any extra markings left from your rough sketch. Check and make sure the female body is in proportion with itself. Adjust your drawing as needed.

    • 4

Review your reference picture of the Akatsuki cloak and examine the way it falls. Sketch a rough draft of the Akatsuki cloak over your female figure. Follow your female's body so the cloak falls naturally. Press lightly with your pencil and use basic bell shapes to create the body and sleeves of the cloak.

    • 5

Sketch the organic shape of the sleeves and cloak using your rough draft as a guide. Draw a closer line down the center of the cloak. Add extra folds around the collar and bottom of the cloak for a natural look.

    • 6

Erase any parts of the female figure which are covered by the cloak. Draw Akatsuki cloud designs onto the cloak wherever desired. If following the specific designs of your reference picture, place the clouds as the picture shows. Review the drawing and adjust any mistakes found.

    • 7

Add the facial details of your female character including her hair, eyes, nose and lips. Double check your entire drawing for any other mistakes. Darken the drawing by pressing hard with your pencil.

    • 8

Ink the drawing with a black pen. Work slowly and erase all pencil markings for a clean look. Add highlights and shadows with a pencil to give your drawing a more realistic look.
