How to Catch a Rhyperior in "Pokemon Diamond"

In "Pokemon Diamond," Rhyperior is a Ground and Rock-type Pokemon that resembles a rhinoceros. This heavyweight creature possesses a balance of high defensive and offensive attributes; in addition, it learns a variety of powerful attacks, such as Earthquake, Megahorn and Rock Wrecker. To obtain this Rhyperior, you must capture a Rhydon and evolve him by giving it a Protector item and trading it to a different game cartridge.

Instructions

    • 1

Fly to the Survival Area in northern Sinnoh. You can only access this area after defeating the Elite Four.

    • 2

Travel east through Route 226. Use Rock Climb to scale the hills at the beginning of the route, and use Surf to traverse the body of water in the middle of the route. Walk through the gate at the end of the route to continue on to Route 228.

    • 3

Pick up the Protector item on Route 228. The item is in a pit northeast from the route entrance.

    • 4

Ride your bike in high gear to escape the pit. Alternatively, use Fly to travel to a nearby town.

    • 5

Explore the grass on Route 228 until you encounter a Rhydon. Its appearance rate during the day is 20 percent; at night, it drops to 10 percent.

    • 6

During battle, weaken the Rhydon with attacks and then capture it with a PokeBall. The Rhydon will be around level 50, so use a Pokemon of equal strength to battle it.

    • 7

Travel to the nearest Pokemon Center

    • 8

Equip Rhydon with the Protector item.

    • 9

Use the Pokemon Center's Trade Service to send Rhydon to a different copy of "Pokemon Diamond" or "Pokemon Pearl." The Pokemon will evolve into Rhyperior.

    • 10

Use the Trade Service again to return Rhyperior to your party.

Tips & Warnings

  • Route 228 experiences a constant sandstorm that will damage your Pokemon during battle. Rock, Ground and Steel-type Pokemon are safe from this adverse weather.

  • Route 228 also contains trainers with Pokemon above level 50. Bring healing items to keep your Pokemon healthy between battles.
